More Mr. Darcy

I just finished Alexandra Potter's Me and Mr DarcyIt was quite funny, cute and silly, but I was slightly annoyed by the "weird similarities" to Pride and Prejudice. Yes, I know that was the whole idea of the book, and it is not a bad idea, but it just seemed like I always knew what was going to happen next, once I saw the trend of similarity. For a bit of light Sunday-reading, it's still well worth it!

The heroine of the story is Emily, who manages a bookstore and is a huge Jane Austen fan. She books a Jane Austen guided tour, where she gets to know plenty of new people, even apparently Darcy himself. But is reality as good as fantasy? Is Darcy really her ideal man? There may also be someone who she at first dislikes, but who "approves on closer aquaintance". Very much the posh-man-insults-you-so-you-hate-him-but-then-you-slowly-change-your-mind-and-learn-the-truth, much like Pride and Prejudice.

All in all, not my favourite book, but certainly not bad, and a joy for Austen and Darcy fans.

Now I'm continuing with Pamela Aidan's Darcy books, and I started re-reading the end of the first one, An Assembly Such as This. I bought these books a couple of years ago, but somehow I seem to have quit in the middle. These books are so different from the one I just finished - much more serious and formal in style. They tell the story of Pride and Prejudice seen from Darcy's side, and they seem to tell it just like he would tell it: quite formally and stiffly. It's an absolute joy! No quitting halfway through this time. :)
